"Great base for exploring northern Tuscany La Canonica is a great base from which to explore northern Tuscany. We had a great week visiting Lucca, Pisa, Sienna, Florence and Verona; oh, and we squeezed a session at the beach too! Starting and ending the day in the peace and tranquility of the cottage in Debico near Fivizzano (well worth a visit - handy supermarket and restaurants, banks etc) was just perfect. We also managed to successfully cook some home-made pizzas in the outside pizza oven. The house is well equipped, including patio furniture and sun loungers / reclining chairs. We had a lovely welcome from Julie with home-made liqueur, wine, plums and flowers. I'd definitely recommend the cottage for value-for-money accommodation with peace and quiet thrown in. We also felt it would make a perfect spot for really getting away from it all; even as a retreat house! KLusher, July 2010"
"True Italian Hideaway This has to be the perfect place to spend quality time in the 'real' Italy. Stunning views, peace, privacy and so much space (inside and out). The only sounds are from the birds and animals in the nearby forest and the bells in gorgeous hillside towns, and yet you are only five minutes (by car) from the beautiful town of Fivizzano. La Canonica has all the old Italian charm with all your needs catered for. Everything is clean and has been well cared for, excellent indoor and outdoor furniture, two good showers, comfortable beds and every item you could wish for in the kitchen, with the added security that (if needed) Julie is only a phone call away. We arrived on a late flight and Julie made sure we had everything we needed for breakfast (plus items we did not expect) which was a lovely touch. Once you have gone out and got your provisions, you could spend the entire time at La Canonica, from listening to the beautiful dawn chorus to watching the fire flies 'dance' in the evening. However, as the mountains or the coast are only a forty minute drive, we are sure you will have a holiday to treasure. We can't thank Julie enough, and are 100% sure we will return. "A Taste of Paradise We found La Canonica to be a little piece of paradise and a delightful place to base ourselves for our Italian holiday. It is situated in a beautiful rustic location, with great privacy and quiet, peaceful surroundings, but with everything you need a short drive away in nearby towns and villages. The area also has good rail and road connections if you want to travel further afield. The house is exquisitely restored and decorated, deceptively spacious, very well-equipped and maintained to a high standard. The owner has gone to considerable effort to make it a really comfortable home from home and her many thoughtful, helpful and personal touches in both the house and garden, added a touch of magic to our holiday. We found her to be extremely helpful and welcoming both before and during our stay. All in all, the beauty and character of the house, it stunning location, and the warmth and thoughtfulness of the owner, ensured that our holiday was relaxed, easy, and thoroughly enjoyable. We cannot recommend La Canonica highly enough for a truly special holiday. Eoin&Claire June 2009"
"Great location for a relaxing holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, house is located in a quiet location but only a short drive from: Great villages to explore; The coast (beach at Lerici); Snow capped mountain scenery; Lucca. Julie was super with recommendations and advice. Kids (5 and 3) well catered for - garden a good size for them to play in (esp paddling pool!)"

"Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful house. We had a truly wonderful holiday."
"How good for the soul to wake up to the sound of wildlife from the forest, and to see the sun rising over the mountains. Lerici was beautiful, as were so many other places, and it was great to see the famous mountains of marble.
